May StrideBox Review

*Spoiler Alert!!* If you have thought about signing up with StrideBox or have yet to receive your package, skip this if you do not want the surprise ruined.

I signed up for StrideBox last month so this was my first shipment! I saw a random ad on Facebook that was intriguing...receive a random box full of different products made specifically for runners. It sounded like Christmas every month for runners!

I opened my mailbox today and literally let out an audible "Woohoo!" My first box was here!

Inside each box is an informative card with descriptions of each product

I will comment individual reviews of each product as I use it. The box is designed to offer you a month's worth of products to try.

  1. Sport Beans:

I have used Sport Beans on lots of long runs. I like them a lot but sometimes I don't choose them because I don't want to deal with chewing something while trying to breathe on my runs. All in all they are a perfectly good choice though and I know you can usually buy them at regular grocery stores.

  2. Bottle Bright:

This is handy cleaning supply to have around! You simply fill up your water bottle with warm water, plunk in the tab and let it sit...then after a bit you shake it and let it sit a bit more. I used it on my stainless steel Contigo water bottle because I haven't wanted to put it in the dishwasher. My biggest annoyance with water bottles and coffee cups is that if you put them in the dishwasher, they don't all tolerate it well, and if you wash them by hand, you can end up with your drinks tasting a wee bit like dishsoap. I like that the Bottle Bright cleans so easily and does a great job!

  3. Honey Stinger with Vitamin C: Cherry Cola flavor:

Loved this little supplement! First, I loved the flavor...cherry cola-who knew? They were chews like Shot Blocks...same texture, same consistency so I like them. The whole package contained about half the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee so I ate half before my 4 1/2 miler and the other half afterward. I had no GI problems, and just a little kick of energy! I give them 2 thumbs up!

  4. Perfect Fit Raw Organic Brown Rice Protein powder:

I have been wanting to get my butt in gear and start making smoothies so I could really load up on my green leafy vegetables. This packet got me to do it! It was a little bit gritty, but nothing more than other protein supplements I have put in my smoothies...and that's not to say I'm an expert. I really haven't done much work with protein powder. I liked that this one was super healthy; vegan, non-GMO, 100% natural, gluten-free, no sugar added, no soy (which is hard to do!)

Lastly, I liked that there was a little card that came with it that included a couple of smoothy recipes. It was a really great place to start!

  5. Klitch Footwear Clip:

This little clip was a nifty little tool but honestly I would not have purchased it on my own. I usually am perfectly fine just throwing my shoes into my gym bag. My son is involved in multiple sports going from one practice to the next so I thought he might use it but he said he really didn't need it either. Maybe my husband will...

  6. Just Great Stuff Superberry Acai Antioxidant Bar:

Yum! This bar was the consistency of maybe a Powerbar, only fruity and tasty! My nursing school friends were all very intrigued :)I would buy these in the grocery store and am going to be on the lookout for them!

  7. Bonk Breaker PB&J Bar:

This bar was average in my opinion...but that was probably because I'm not a big PB&J fan (crazy, I know!). However, I did like the portion-it was perfect for a post-run recovery snack. I had it along with 8oz of smoothie.

If you love PB&J, this is the bar for you!

  8. Blister Protectors by Maverick Sports Medicine Inc:

These blister protectors are a great idea in theory. I tried them on my frequent "hot spot" which is my little toe. I wrapped it around my toe and it came right off. There weren't any directions so I feel like the only reason it didn't work was user error. Also, the picture shows the protectors being used on the back of the heel, the top of the foot and the bottom of the forefoot so maybe those were more appropriate areas. Also...I tried cutting one in half lengthwise to try that on my toe and the gel oozed out. Yep, user error :(

  9. Vi Fuel Endurance Gel in Chocolate:

I tried this today before my run. I almost threw up. I did not like the gel/chocolate combo. I have not tried chocolate in other brands so I'm not sure if I just didn't like this particular brand. I will be trying them with caution though!

So that's it! That is the last of my goodies from the May StrideBox! I am proud to say I made it last until May 26th and I'm looking forward to June's StrideBox!
